Norton Rat's Tavern Santa Catalina Angosta 116, 2nd
floor, Plaza de Armas. This spacious, low-key pub/bar with
flags draped on the ceiling attracts crowds of young blokes
keen for a game of darts or billiards. The beer is home-
brewed (S12), the burgers (S12) are some of the best in
town, and the chile con carne burrito (S14) sells like hot
cakes. Daily 7am-2am.
Paddy Flaherty's Triunfo 124. At 3347m, Paddy's
proudly boasts that it is the highest 100-percent Irish
owned pub on the planet. The pub attracts a melting
pot of Peruvians and tourists alike and the menu offers all
sorts of home faves, such as shepherd's pie (S16), at very
reasonable prices. Happy hour 8-9pm and 10.30-11pm.

Cicciolina's C Triunfo 393, 2nd floor T 084
239 510. The Argentine chef here rustles
up a fantastic selection of Mediterranean
fusion dishes, all lovingly prepared with
local ingredients. The wooden beams
along with the dried garlic and chilli
strands hanging from the ceiling give
the interior a cosy rustic touch. Try the
carpaccio de alpaca (S22.) Book ahead.

ChiCha Plaza Regocijo 261, 2nd floor.
Gastón Acurio's swish eatery has superb
takes on traditional cuscqueño dishes,
such as anticuchos de corazón and
chicharrónes , as well as expertly executed
fusion dishes. The ceviche really is heaven
on a plate. Mains S25-60.
CLUBS AND LIVE MUSIC
7 Angelitos San Blas 638. Up in San Blas, 7 Angelitos
hosts national and international bands nightly (10pm),
playing an assorted mix of reggae, grunge and Beatles
tracks. The bar has two happy hours (7-9pm and 10.30-
11.30pm) and proudly claims to have the best mojito in
the universe. Mon-Sat 7pm-3am.
Garabato Plateros 316, just by Ukuku's. Cusqueños head
here to boogie to national tunes; join the locals before
hitting the dancefloor and knock back a shot of
piteado (S7), black tea with alcohol. Cocktails S15-23.
Daily 8pm-4am, Fri & Sat until 6am.
Km 0 Tandapata 100, Plaza San Blas. This chilled-out bar
with a relaxed lounge area upstairs hosts live bands (daily
at 10pm) playing an eclectic mix from reggae to funk.
Hookahs (S15), darts, tapas (from S6) and more substantial
mains (S18-24), as well as happy hour 4-10pm. Daily
4pm-2am.
Le Nomade Choquechaca 124. Sample some home-
made rum with soaked fruits and relax with a hookah as
you enjoy some quechua jazz, rock, funk or blues tunes
played nightly (9pm) at this laidback French bar. It's happy
hour all evening from 5pm. Daily 8am-midnight.
The Muse Triunfo 338, 2nd floor. Belt your favourite
songs out in the karaoke room, catch up on some footie
or hit the dancefloor at this popular joint. A great Cuban
salsa band kicks off at 11.30pm on Wed, Fri and Sat, and
it livens up substantially on weekends. Mains S20-25.

Ukuku's Bar Plateros 316. This is one of the oldest and
largest bars in town, with a world collection of liqueur
bottles dating back over one hundred years. It really
gets going at 10.30pm, with live music and dance shows.
Profits go towards preserving the Andes by planting
native trees, as well as helping children in local commu-
nities. Happy hour 7.30-10.30pm. Drinks start at S9. Daily
7.30pm-4am.
Los Perros Tecsecocha 436. This relaxed restaurant/
bar with dark red undertones, hanging lamps and
comfortable sofas is the perfect spot to while away an
evening. The international menu includes wontons (S17),
crunchy potato skins (S17) and burgers (S24). Daily
11am-midnight.
Sueño Azul Teqseqocha 171. This itty-bitty Israeli place
serves Middle Eastern favourites including hummus and
falafel (S12), shakshuka (S7) and kebabs (S13). Service is
lethargic and carefree, but the S10 menu makes it worth
the wait. Mon-Sat 11am-9.30pm.
DRINKING AND NIGHTLIFE
Apart from Lima, no Peruvian town has as varied a night-
life as Cusco. Clubs open early, around 9pm, but don't start
getting lively before 11pm, and close in the wee hours.
Pubs and clubs alike often offer 2-for-1 drink deals during
happy hour. Beware of your drink being spiked in crowded
nightspots.
PUBS AND BARS
Cross Keys Pub C Triunfo 350, 2nd floor. British
memorabilia dots the premises of this English pub, owned
by the British Consul. Catch up on the latest sports on
one of the screens, play darts or sink into the sofas by the
fireplace on a cold rainy day. There are English beers and
ciders on offer, as well as great pub food, including fish
and chips (S30). Daily 10am-1.30am.
Indigo Tecsecocha 415. It's always happy hour at this
laidback bar with swinging chairs and comfortable
couches. The Thai food (S20-27), hookahs, board games,
background classics and friendly staff will ensure you stay
for a good while. Free wi-fi, too. Daily 4pm-2am.
