2075), or Jesuit Block, a short walk
southwest of the plaza, is Córdoba's
top attraction. A testament to the
missionaries who arrived hot on the heels
of Córdoba's sixteenth-century colonizers,
the Templo de la Compañía de Jesús ,
built in 1640, is Argentina's oldest
surviving Jesuit temple. It has a striking
Cusqueño altarpiece, and its barrel-
shaped vaulted roof is made of
Paraguayan cedar. The block also houses
a private chapel, the Capilla Doméstica
(guided visits on request).
