Monasterio de Santa Teresa
Southwest of Plaza San Martín at
Independencia 146 is the Iglesia Santa
Teresa , part of a working convent that
contains the Museo de Arte Religioso Juan
de Tejeda (Independencia 122; Wed-Sat

It has perhaps the finest collection of
sacred art in the country, including Jesuit
artefacts and religious paintings from
Cusco in Peru.

spaces for chilling out in the summer.

Museo Superior de Bellas Artes
Palacio Ferreyra
An exemplary art museum, the Museo
Superior de Bellas Artes Palacio Ferreyra ,
Avenida Hipólito Irigoyen 511 (Tues-
Sun 10am-8pm; AR$10; T 0351 434
3636), features four floors of works in an
opulent 1916 palace built in the French
classical style. The top floor has rolling
contemporary art exhibitions, while the
basement level is devoted to photography.
In between, some three hundred artists
are represented, including Pablo Picasso
and Argentina's Fernando Fader and Lino
Enea Spilimbergo. A little further south is
the hilltop Parque Sarmiento , one of the
city's most popular green spaces.
Museo de Bellas Artes Dr Genaro Pérez
The municipal art gallery, the Museo de
Bellas Artes Dr Genaro Pérez , Avenida
General Paz 33 (Tues-Sun 10am-8pm;
free; T 0351 434 1646), is housed in a late
nineteenth-century French-style mansion
and features nineteenth- and twentieth-
century Argentine art. The permanent
collection has numerous landscape
paintings from the Escuela Cordobesa , a
movement led by master Genaro Pérez.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
By plane Córdoba's Aeropuerto Internacional Taravella is
11km north of the city centre. It has domestic flights to
Buenos Aires, Bariloche, Mendoza and Rosario, as well as
international services to cities in Brazil, Chile and Peru.
Taxis (around AR$100) and minibuses connect the airport
with the city centre.
By bus The long-distance bus station ( T 0351 428 4141)
is several blocks east of the centre at Blvd Perón 380.
Public buses run downtown; a taxi costs around AR$15.
Local buses for some provincial destinations leave from
the Terminal de Minibuses behind the Mercado Sur market
on Blvd Arturo Illia.
Destinations Alta Gracia (every 15min; 1hr); Buenos Aires
(frequent; 9-11hr); Capilla del Monte (hourly; 1hr 30min);
Mendoza (hourly; 9-10hr); Rosario (hourly; around 6hr);
Salta (10 daily; 11-12hr); Villa General Belgrano (every
45min-1hr; 2hr).
Nueva Córdoba
The neighbourhood of Nueva Córdoba ,
just south of the historic centre, is full
of late nineteenth-century mansions
converted into hip bars and restaurants.
Diagonal Avenida Hipólito Yrigoyen
cuts through the neighbourhood, which
extends from Plaza Vélez Sarsfield to
Parque Sarmiento (see below). Just over
halfway down is the Paseo del Buen
Pastor , Avenida Hipólito Yrigoyen 325,
a former women's prison converted into
a culinary and cultural precinct featuring
art exhibitions and free concerts. Flanked

SKYDIVING
Córdoba is the most affordable place
in Argentina to jump out of a plane.
Tumbling out of the door at 2500m, you
get a bird's-eye view, after 20 seconds of
face-flattening freefall, of city sprawl,
a patchwork of green fields and the Central

Tourist information The main tourist o ce is in the

turismo.gov.ar). There are also several smaller (and often
more helpful) o ces dotted around the city, including at
the bus station (daily 7am-9pm; T 0351 433 1982), the
airport (daily 8am-8pm; T 0351 434 8390) and the Paseo
del Buen Pastor (daily 8am-8pm; T 0351 434 2727).
Tour operators The tourist authority runs regular free
walking tours of downtown sights with English-language
guides; pop in to the main tourist o ce to find out what's
on during your visit. The privately run City Tour ( T 0351
424 6605) offers sightseeing tours on a red double-decker
