the city, with steaks grilled to perfection at very reasonable
prices. Extremely popular, especially on weekends. Veal

COFFEE WITH LEGS
In downtown Santiago you may
encounter the strange phenomenon of
café con piernas , or “coffee with legs”
- cafés where besuited businessmen are
served coffee by skimpily clad waitresses.
Café Caribe , at Ahumada 120, and Café
Haiti , at Ahumada 336, are both tamer
examples of the genre. At the raunchier
cafés, customers are offered more than
just coffee.

DRINKING AND NIGHTLIFE
Santiago is not a 24-hour party town, and compared to other
Latin capitals can seem rather tame. However, Thursdays,
Fridays and Saturdays are lively, with crowds pouring into the
streets and bars of the nightlife zonas .

want cheap beer and bar snacks in a less than raucous
environment, this intimate bar is the perfect spot. Open
until 2.30am. Closed Sun.
La Piojera Aillavilú 1030; map p.385. Carve your name
into the wooden tables at this rough-and-ready bar with
a loyal clientele, and knock back a terremoto (earthquake)
- a powerful wine and ice-cream mix. Drinks CH$1800.
