Creating a PDB Using the DBCA
As mentioned earlier, you can use the DBCA to create CDBs and PDBs. In this section
you'll use the DBCA to create a PDB in an existing CDB, using the PDB$SEED database as
your starting point.
1. Launch the DBCA, and in Step 1, on the first screen, select the last item, Manage
Pluggable Databases, as shown in Figure 11.7.
FiGURe 11.7 Managing pluggable databases using the DBCA
2. For Step 2, from the Manage Pluggable Databases screen, shown in Figure 11.8, choose
Create A Pluggable Database; then click Next.
3. In Step 3, to create a PDB you'll need to select a host CDB from the list of available
databases, as shown in Figure 11.9, and provide the logon credentials for a common
user with SYSDBA privileges. Please note that all databases on the host server are
listed, some of which may be non-CDBs.
If you select a non-CDB and click Next, the DBCA will inform you that you have chosen
a non-CDB (shown in Figure 11.10) and return you to the Database List screen.
