Preparing the Scene, Lighting, and Background in
Maya
We have now imported the meshes themselves and oriented them in the scene. The next step is to create an
environment for the figure to be lit. Since the purpose of this image is to showcase the character, we will
chose a simple photo studio setup. This allows us to focus entirely on the figure and his silhouette.
Creating the Backdrop
In the steps below, we will create the studio backdrop as well as the basic lighting setup.
1. From the main menu at the top of the screen click Create Polygon Primitives Plane . Reset the
settings by going to Edit Reset settings on the window. Set the height and width to 35 and the width and
height divisions to 3 ( Figure 9-12 ) .
