I hope this section has adequately explained the meaning and use of the golden rectangle. I have always
been fascinated by this phenomenon in art and equally mystified by its application. Hopefully this section
has helped to clarify how we can use this ratio in our work.
These are guidelines to help create better images. The idea is to understand and use them to your bene-
fit—not to be shackled by them. As you compose your own images, you will sometimes have to adjust your
approach based on multiple variables. For example, in my composition I needed to place the figure torso
down the center of the picture plane. This was because of the highly complex multiple limbs and potential
for unappealing tangents. I balanced the pros and cons of each problem and decided that bringing the figure
