every year or prepare a stock solution that can be kept indefinitely in a
tightly closed container. While slaked lime can be used instead of hydrated
lime, it is more difficult and dangerous to use and is best avoided.
HOW TO PREPARE BORDEAUX SPRAY STOCK
SOLUTIONS
To prepare enough stock solutions for 10 gallons of spray, follow these
directions.
1. Dissolve 1 pound of copper sulfate in 1 gallon of warm water. Stir
constantly while mixing.
2. Mix 1 pound of fresh, dry hydrated lime in a separate container
holding 1 gallon of room temperature water. Prepare the lime
suspension at least 2 hours before you need to make the
Bordeaux mix. Stir constantly while mixing.
3. Once the solution and suspension are mixed, cap the containers
tightly, label them, and store them out of the reach of children.
The copper sulfate, in particular, is toxic.
