with its near namesake ( Dive Resort Club Mabuhay ) over in
Sabang, this is a substantial resort set in expansive tropical
gardens and finished to a high standard. All rooms are a/c
with cable TV and have balconies overlooking the central
swimming pool. Their stylish Mabuhay Beach Restaurant
is right on the shore and th ere's a silent 24hr generator

COCO BEACH

bangka (they'll collect you in Batangas or at Muelle pier),
this is secluded and idyllic, with airy rooms built of
indigenous materials and a full range of activities on offer,
including day-trips, diving and tennis. There's also a large
outdoor swimming pool in the well-kept grounds. The
only problem is that you'll have to depend on the resort's
bangkas to take you anywhere, even out for dinner at
night. The resort does, however, have several restaurants

Sophisticated apartments set on the hillside above the
beach, most of which feature huge windows and balconies
looking out to sea. There's also two p ools, and a great

PALANGÁN

a remote escape without foregoing everyday luxuries,
this imposing colonnaded building right on the seashore
may be the answer. Rooms have a/c, cable TV and are
grandly decorated with heavy furnishings, and some have
kitchenettes. There's also a decent pool and beautiful
coastal vistas. In fact the on ly downside is that the beach
here isn't that great. P2700

Brightly coloured, no-frills concrete huts with a/c, cable TV
and hot water, in an exceptional location, just paces from

resort with various palm-roofed rooms and cottages
surrounding a beautiful swimming pool. All rooms have
a/c, hot water, cable TV and DVD player. On site are a reput-
able diving school, a first-class restaurant serving Asian
and European food and the relaxing up stairs G ecko Bar

relaxed family-run resort on a promontory to the north of
the road just before you reach Palangán. Options range
from rooms in the main house to whole wooden houses
(P3300), good for up to six people. All rooms are beautifully
furnished in native style and many boast expansive
bamboo balconies with fabulous views. The owners
prepare the f ood ser ved in the restaurant, including vege-
