Camping
Some of the best legal camping on the island can be found in the Kipahulu campground of
Haleakala National Park. There are few things better than falling asleep to the sound of
crashing surf, only to wake up in the morning and walk to pools before a single visitor has
arrived. This is a truly a campground for getting back to center and tuning the rest of the
world out for a while. There are pit toilets at the campground and grassy campsites, or, if
one is available, carry your gear out to a distant lau hala tree and set up camp beneath its
shade. Rates for camping are $10 for each vehicle in your party, which also counts as your
entry fee to the park.

Small and historic M Hotel Lana'i (828 Lana'i Ave., 808/565-7211 or 877/665-2624, fax

a cottage removed from the main building. Wi-Fi and breakfast are both complimentary,
rates range from $119 for a standard room to $219 for the cottage, and shuttle service down
to the beach is available for a fee of $36, which is good for the duration of your stay.
OVER $150
Lavish, luxurious, and delightfully over the top, the Four Seasons resorts on the island of
Lana'i are two of Hawai'i's best. New owner Larry Ellison devoted millions of dollars to
major renovations when he took over from David Murdock, and the Asian decor that once
dominated the hotels has been replaced by Hawaiian designs. The resorts look better now
than they ever have, and if it was even possible to make these resorts nicer, it's recently
been accomplished. While both hotels are the pinnacle of luxury, each, however, offers a
