In Ka'anapali, the resort shuttle offers free transportation across the resort and runs on
a set schedule 9am-9pm.
Motorcycle and Moped
If you want the wind whipping through your hair, there are a number of different mo-
torcycle, Harley, and moped rentals scattered across the West Side. The place with the
largest selection of bikes is Aloha Motorsports (30 Halawai Dr., 808/667-7000,
www.alohamotorsports.com , 8am-5pm daily) in Honokowai across the highway from the
Honua Kai resort. It doesn't matter where they're located, however, since the company of-
fers free pickup and drop-off on the West Side. Minimum time for rentals is four hours,
although most people opt for 24 hours. Rates for mopeds can be as low as $49 for four
hours or $59 for 24 hours, and Harley rentals average around $109 for four hours and $149
for 24 hours. During slower times of the year there can be better specials advertised.
In downtown Lahaina, the best option for hopping on a Harley is at Cycle City La-
haina (602 Front St., 667-2800, www.cyclecitymaui.com , 8:30am-6pm daily), which is
steps from the banyan tree. This is a satellite operation of a larger store in Kahului. Rates
here are usually around $140 for 24 hours, although lower specials are often advertised.
If you don't need a full-on hog and just want a moped for the day, check out Motoroshi
(129 Lahainaluna Rd., 808/661-0006, 7am-7pm Mon.-Sat.) moped rentals on Lahainaluna
Road. Only a few steps off Front Street in the parking lot of the Café Café coffee shop, its
mopeds are available from $40 for three hours to $55 to for the whole day. There are also
a number of Vespa scooters which range from $65-95/daily depending on the size of the
bike.
BUS
The cheapest way to get about West Maui (albeit much slower), is the Maui Bus (808/
871-4838, www.co.maui.hi.us/bus ) . There are four different routes servicing the West
Maui area, departures are once per hour, all routes are $2.00/person per boarding, and you
can buy a day pass for $4. The bus stations in Lahaina are in the back of the Wharf Cinema
Center across the street from the banyan tree, and on the intersection of Front Street and
Papalaua Street across the road from the Hard Rock Café. For getting from one side of
