cor. Even though the beer is the main draw, the Hawaiian beef burger, sliders, and coconut
porter beef stew are all hearty accompaniments to a rich pint of stout. There are also filling

Coffee Shops
In the Napili Plaza, The Coffee Store (5095 Napilihau Rd., 808/669-4170,
www.mauicoffee.com , 6am-6pm daily) is the northernmost place on the island completely
dedicated to the wonders of the coffee bean. If you're heading out for an early morning
stroll on the Kapalua Coastal Trail, this small shop has the usual selection of caffeinated
options in addition to selling locally grown beans. Beyond just coffee, food options include
health-conscious fare such as acai bowls and zucchini muffins you can enjoy in the com-
fortable atmosphere.
At the Kahana Gateway Center, Hawaiian Village Coffee (4405 Honoapi'ilani Hwy.,
808/665-1114, www.hawaiianvillagecoffee.com , 5:30am-6pm daily) is another classic cof-
fee shop with a strong local following and good community vibe. This is the earliest place
to open on the northwest side, and the sunrise hours are a collection of late-shift police of-
ficers refueling after a long night and sleepy-eyed locals stopping in on their way to work.
Although small, the shop has a welcoming atmosphere for reading the morning paper or
checking your email on the free Wi-Fi.
KA'ANAPALI
When it comes to dining in Ka'anapali, there are only three options: restaurants in Whalers
Village, restaurants in the resorts, and a handful of restaurants a block off the strip.
Italian
The best Italian in Ka'anapali is at Pulehu (808/667-3200, www.westinkaanapali.com ,
5:30pm-9:30pm Thurs.-Mon., $23-39), inside the Westin Ka'anapali Villas. The antipasti
menu features locally-sourced bruschetta and Caprese insalata. and Pacific Italian fusion
takes over on the main menu where selections of risotto-crusted, pan-seared fish are
offered alongside chianti-braised short ribs. Considering the venue and level of cuisine,
dishes are surprisingly affordable.
If you just want a slice of pizza, Nicki's Pizza (2435 Ka'anapali Pkwy., 808/667-0333,
www.nickispizzamaui.com , 7:30am-9pm daily) in the Whalers Village food court offers
filling slices for $4-5.
