In-Depth Information
These corporations can conduct business by mining or manufacturing items and
then by selling them to other players. Corporations can also declare war on other
corporations, leading to all-out war across the star system.
Eve has regularly hit the gaming news for the way that players have conducted
themselves within the game (within the rules), where different corporations have
infiltrated other competing corporations and set out to sabotage them.
The political and sabotage aspects of Eve make for a very compelling reason to
play the game, but it is said that the game can be hard going for the beginner and
in some cases too much number crunching when it comes to the economy and
working out how to make a profit from various mining and manufacturing
activities.

EverQuest
EverQuest is a fantasy-based MMO and was one of first of a new breed of MMO
games that featured 3D worlds and characters; the game was released in 1999. At
its height it was said to have had over 400,000 subscribers.
I already discussed EverQuest earlier in this chapter; for more information about
the game, visit http://eqplayers.station.sony.com/.
EverQuest II
As technology improves sometimes game companies find it easier to release a
new version of a game rather than update the older version. This is not always
the case, and some games like WOW and Ultima have had in-game engine
updates to keep them current. With EverQuest II, Sony created a new game
engine and based the story 500 years after previous events. The game was
released in November 2004 and is a monthly subscription-based game.
SOE (Sony Online Entertainment) announced and subsequently released a free-
to-play version of EQ2.
