In-Depth Information
and facilities are very bare bones, which may explain why Ivan added a couple of apart-
ments with private bathrooms (see below). The property is a bit of a hike east from the
main strip of White Bay watering holes, though with the Stress Free Bar on site, you might
not find the need to leave. If you do, look for the path over the rocks on the beach.
Ivan's Stress Free Guesthouse APARTMENTS $$
( 284-495-9358,340-513-1095; www.ivansstressfreeguesthouse.com ; r$150-375;
) This is Ivan's more upscale lodging on the premises. The upstairs holds a one-bed-
room suite that can accommodate up to five people; there's a sleeper sofa and full kitchen.
The downstairs is a studio suite for two people, with a microwave and refrigerator. There's
a minimum stay of three nights.
Sandcastle Hotel HOTEL $$
( 284-495-9888; www.soggydollar.com ; d $285-310) Situated smack on the beach,
the Sandcastle offers four cottages and two hotel rooms, all sans phone and TV (and only
the hotel rooms have air-conditioning). The grounds host the infamous Soggy Dollar Bar,
which is the most popular of the strip's venues, so there's always an active scene here. Kids
under 16 are not permitted as overnight guests.
White Bay Villas & Seaside Cottages APARTMENTS $$$
( 410-571-6692, 800-778-8066; www.jostvandyke.com ; cottages per week from
$2000; ) Located far up a hill at White Bay's east end, the property consists of
seven pretty cottages and three villas in configurations of one to three bedrooms. All have
kitchens, coolers and decks with killer views. Staff are first-rate pros at arranging whatever
you need (including child care). Rentals typically are for weekly stays, but you might snag
a three- or five-night opening. It's quite secluded, located more or less between Great Har-
bour and the White Bay strip, so prepare to walk if you're sans wheels.
Eating & Drinking
Ask around about live music - musicians such as Reuben Chinnery strum at different bars
throughout the week.
