Eco-camps, aka tent resorts, have popped up throughout the USVI. Maho Bay Camps (

) on St John leads the pack; each 'tent' (a permanent, canvas-sided structure) sits
on a wooden platform that is propped up so far off the ground, and surrounded by vegetation
so thick, it's like living in a tree house. Similar camps include Concordia Eco-Tents on St
John, Mt Victory Campground on St Croix and Virgin Islands Campground on Water Island.
Rainwater collection and solar-heated showers are common, as are reasonable costs.
