Buck Island
19 Tiny Buck Island ( Click here ) floats a mile and a half off St Croix and dots an
18,800-acre marine sanctuary. On land, endangered hawksbill and green sea turtles come
ashore to protected beaches. In the water, a complete Caribbean ecosystem is home to coral
grottoes and flashy tropical fish. The National Park Service preserves the habitat. Several
tour operators run trips to the island that include snorkeling on the reef and allow time to
meander on shore, where picnicking and hiking opportunities await.
