Try to vary regular travel routes by changing travel times or using differ-
ent roads.
House Checklist
Check the following:
Windows — Look for solid windows and frame. Slide windows can be
opened easily; therefore, make sure there are working locks on the
window.
Sliding Doors — Make sure the locks work properly.
Doors — Make sure outside doors have an eyepiece large enough to
see a significant area in front of the door. All doors to the outside should
have dead bolts.
Roof — Most houses have ducts for the vent, cooling system, and fire-
place. Make sure that these exit points are locked.
Lights — Thieves hate bright lights. Install bright lights around the
house and keep them on all night.
Ya r d — If you have a fenced-in yard, have a sliding bolt lock on the side
gate. Have sensor lights that will go on when motion is detected around
the house. Cut tree limbs that could be used to climb to the roof or
upper-level windows.
Fire Prevention — Be sure that there is a fire alarm system and a fire
extinguisher. Keep a first aid kit at home.
Additional Measures
Consider adding a video camera, intercom and alarm system to strate-
gic places around the house. These devices can significantly increase
your security.
