WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER: Watch Recorded TV

If your PC has a TV tuner, you can use Windows Media Center to record TV programs either manually, as the program is playing, or automatically, using criteria you specify. Windows Media Center saves recorded programs as digital files, which you can view at your leisure.
When watching recorded TV, you can pause, rewind, and fast-forward the program, much as you can when you watch a DVD. This enables you to skip portions of the broadcast that do not interest you, such as advertisements. The buttons that enable you to do this are accessible via onscreen controls or from the remote control. When you finish watching a recorded show, you can delete it to free up space on your PC for more recordings.

Did You Know?

By default, Windows Media Center keeps your recordings until space runs out, at which point it deletes the oldest stored recording. To select a different “Keep” option, scroll to Tasks on the Start screen, click TV, click Recorder, and click Recording Defaults. Then, using the + or – button, select Until Space Needed, For 1 Week, Until I Watch, or Until I Delete. When you finish, click Save.

The quality of a recording is directly related to how much disk space that recording consumes, with higher-quality recordings consuming more disk space. To change the quality level of your recordings, navigate to the Recording Defaults screen and, under Quality, click the + or – button to select Fair, Good, Better, or Best.
