The requirements of an ideal inspection tool are : It should be
(a) accurate (b) require a minimum of operator skill
(c) inspect a specific type of error (d) fast to use
(e) Self checking.
The degree of accuracy of calibration depends on the accuracy of the inspecting instruments.
Devices which reduce dependence on operator skill contribute to both efficiency and accuracy. The
requirement of speed is not for economic reasons but to avoid errors from changes in temperature
where inspections become involved. A good inspection tool should be capable of being checked
against itself. This feature increases the reliability.
