Using Contacts on an iPhone

There are many ways to use contact information stored on your iPhone.You can access your contact information from the Contacts application and from within other applications that use that information,such as Mail,Phone,and so on.

Using the Contacts Application

Using the Contacts application,you can search or browse for a contact and then view the detailed information for the contact in which you are interested. From the Info screen for a contact,you can perform actions using the contact’s information.
1. On the Home screen,tap Contacts.You see the All Contacts screen with the contacts listed in the format you selected,such as last name,first name.
2. Drag your finger up or down to scroll the screen to browse for contact information; flick your finger up or down to scroll rapidly.
3. Tap the index to jump to contact information organized by first letter of the selected format (last name or first name,depending on the preference you set).
4. Use the Search tool to search for a specific contact.
5. To view a contact’s information, tap the contact.The Info screen appears.
On the Home screen,tap Contacts.To view a contact's information, tap the contact.The Info screen appears.To return to the All Contacts list without performing an action,tap All Contacts.
6. Scroll up and down the screen to view all the contact’s information.
7. Tap the data and buttons on the screen to perform actions (the actions you see for a contact depend upon the kind of information available for that contact).
8. To return to the All Contacts list without performing an action,tap All Contacts.


Using Contacts Information in Other Applications

You can also access contact information in the context of another application. For example,you can use a contact’s email address when you create an email message.When you perform such actions,you use the All Contacts screen to find and select the contact whose information you want to use.The following example shows using contact information to send an email message.
Open the application from which you want to access contact infor-mation.(This example uses Mail.)To search for a contact,tap in the Search bar.
1. Open the application from which you want to access contact infor-mation.(This example uses Mail.)
2. Tap the Add button.The All Contacts screen appears.
3. To search for a contact,tap in the Search bar. (As you learned earlier, you can also browse the list or use the index to find a contact.)
Tap the contact whose information you want to use.
4. Enter the search text.
5. Tap the contact whose information you want to use.You move back to the application, and the appropriate information is entered.

Multiple Fields

If you tap a contact who has more than one entry for a type of information, you move to the contact’s info screen and then tap on the specific entry you want to use. For example, if a contact has more than one email address, when you tap the contact, you move to the Info screen where you see all the contact’s email addresses.Tap the email address to which you want to send the message.
