The home of Steve and Beth Lee in Black Forest, Colorado, is possibly one of the most haunted locations in the world. The two-story log house and the five acres it is situated on is the site of some of the most incredible paranormal activity ever witnessed. Balls and streaks of light flit through the trees in the yard, the sounds of unexplained footsteps echo through the house, ghostly mist and apparitions show up in photographs, and a 100-year-old mirror seems to reflect otherworldly faces and figures. Even more intriguing is the fact that a lot of the paranormal activity has been witnessed by more than one person and also caught on film and videotape, including by the crew of the TV show Sightings.
Soon after moving into their new home in 1991, Steve and Beth Lee at first assumed someone was trying to scare them away when odd occurrences began to take place. The El Paso County police department investigated 64 unexplained reports of “break-ins” but failed to find any evidence of criminal activity. Frustrated, Lee hired private investigators who set up cameras and motion detectors on the property. The videotape and photos did not show any suspicious activity of human origin but instead showed unexplained streaks of light and even phantom transparent faces. After conducting his own experiments to determine where the strange images originated, Lee finally came to the conclusion that paranormal forces might be responsible. Over the years, Steve Lee has amassed more than 3,000 photographs and dozens of hours of videotape showing evidence of paranormal goings-on.
The paranormal activity has been documented and experienced by several individuals outside of the Lee family, lending even more credibility to their story. The Lees contacted Sightings in 1995 and over the next two years, Sightings conducted several investigations of the Lees’ home with the help of paranormal investigators Echo Bodine and Peter James. Bodine called the haunting “monumental” in scope and detected more than 20 different spirits. Sightings also consulted a Hopi Shaman who was familiar with the area who told them that the Lee home was located on the site of a “rainbow vortex”— a sort of doorway between this world and the next.
To further validate their experiences, the Lees even contacted a state senator, Charles Duke, and invited him to come and take photographs. He did so and captured several anomalous images with his own camera, including a very clear image of an apparition of a dog. Intrigued by his own findings, Senator Duke contacted the FBI, who declined to investigate but told the Lees that “poltergeists” might be the cause.
It is still not clear what is responsible for the paranormal activity in the Lees’ home, but judging from the sheer volume of evidence and first-person experiences, it is obvious that something unexplainable is going on. Perhaps the home is indeed the site of a “rainbow bridge,” a gateway to the afterlife, a sort of ghostly train station for traveling spirits just passing through.
