is a high frequency of “cornice glaciers”, which are those glaciers wider than longer,
and comprise 40% of all the glaciers mapped.
However glacier inventory is a baseline research. There have been some com-
parison with some of the climate scenarios proposed by IPCC, in this case, two
scenarios were used: B2 and A2 Zero isotherm altitude (ZIA) scenarios. The result
of this exercise was that in the case of B2 scenario, there would exist a loss of 65%
of bare ice glaciers and a 70% loss of rock glaciers; in the A2 scenario, that would
imply the loss of 95% of the current glacier area and a 91% of loss in active rock
glaciers (Marín et al. 2008 ).
