At 62.7 feet, the 1937 flood was so high that it submerged many Point Pleasant sections
high enough to escape previous floods. Included was the Marietta Manufacturing Company.
During World War II, the boatbuilder employed a small army of workers producing hun-
dreds of boats for the military. But after the war, the company struggled and finally went
