In-Depth Information
Two boaters pose for the camera near the arched metal sign marking the flooded entrance
to Park Place, a tree-lined residential section located just off Parkersburg's Garfield Aven-
ue near Eighth Street. The last buildings in Park Place were demolished in the 1970s to
make room for an expanding Camden-Clark Hospital. (Photograph by Artcraft Studio.)
Determined Parkersburg residents employed all manner of boats to get around at the height
of the flood. In this photograph, taken at Murdoch Avenue and Nineteenth Street, can be
seen rowboats, canoes, and, in the foreground, an improvised barge with a number of men
and boys aboard. At least some of the youngsters no doubt viewed the flood as a welcome
treat, as it meant the schools were closed. (Photograph by Artcraft Studio.)
