The 1937 flood devastated railroads throughout the length of the Ohio Valley. When a river-
weakened stretch of track at Moundsville, West Virginia, collapsed, it sent this trio of freight
cars crashing into the mud. Accidents such as this one ultimately forced the Baltimore and
Ohio Railroad B&O, now CSX) to suspend its operations along the Ohio River. Damage to
the B&O and other railroads that served the valley would take weeks to repair.
