In-Depth Information
During the latter part of the 19th century and earliest years of the 20th century, Pomeroy, a
small Ohio River town in Meigs County, Ohio, was an important shipper of coal and salt. It
is said the first coal barges to travel the Ohio River were loaded there. Like other river
towns, Pomeroy was regularly visited by Old Man River. Here is the aftermath from one
such visit in March 1910.
