In the days before bridges spanned the Ohio River, ferryboats provided the only way to get
across. The ferry landing at Utica on the Indiana shore near Jeffersonville became a popu-
lar crossing. Trying to cross the river at Jeffersonville was deemed too dangerous thanks to
the rocky Falls of the Ohio. Here a lone rowboat makes its way down a flooded street in the
historic village.
