INDIANA 1937
Aurora, Indiana, is a historic river town situated roughly 35 miles west of Cincinnati. This
photograph from Aurora is typical of the devastation the 1937 flood inflicted on Indiana's
Ohio River communities. The raging water collapsed many houses, ripped others from their
foundations, and often reached the second floor of those sturdy dwellings that survived. The
damage from the 1937 flood in six Indiana counties was estimated at nearly $13 million.
