This is a view of the flooded Broadway looking east from Fourth Street, one of downtown
Louisville's busiest thoroughfares. The large building at right is the Heyburn Building.
Completed in 1928, the 17-story classic revival-style structure was built by William R. Hey-
burn, president of the Belknap Hardware and Manufacturing Company. (For a view of the
flooded Belknap warehouse, see page 95.)
In this photograph, a loaded boat can be seen making its way past the Kentucky Theater,
one of many movie palaces that once lined Louisville's Fourth Street. Built in 1921 in the
ornate classic revival style, the theater had a lobby with a large chandelier and two per-
