also been applied to updates of in place hydrocar-
bon volumes and extractable reserves. The revised
stratigraphic framework has also formed the basis
for adding new and previously unidentified
opportunities for increased oil recovery from the
Åre Formation. In a regional context, the revised
Åre stratigraphy developed in the Heidrun Field
should also provide a common basis in upcoming
sequence stratigraphic studies in the neighbour-
ing fields.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
The Heidrun Licence owners (Statoil ASA,
ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS, Eni Norge AS
and Petoro AS) are acknowledged for providing
access to necessary data in order to prepare this
publication. Furthermore, the Heidrun Field oper-
ator, Statoil ASA, is acknowledged for permission
to publish the synthesis and analytical presenta-
tion of the Åre Formation sedimentology and stra-
tigraphy. The authors also would like to extend
the acknowledgements to Allard W. Martinius for
initiating the process of a formal presentation of
the scientific results from this study and to his
continuous effort of following up the process such
that the manuscript could be presented.
Contributions from three reviewers, Jonathan
Wonham, Brian J. Willis and Donatella Mellere,
are highly appreciated and have significantly
improved the quality of the final manuscript.
