4.3 NORTH-SOUTH SYNCHRONY
4.3.1 Direct comparison of Greenland and Antarctica ice core records
A central issue in climate dynamics is whether major changes in the Earth's
climate originate in one or both hemispheres, and how the climates of the
hemispheres are coupled during major climate changes. In this connection, we can
utilize Northern Hemisphere ice core data that go back as far as 150,000 years,
Antarctica ice core data that date back up to 800,000 years, and ocean sediment
