Social Security Administration. SSA provides Social Security Disability,
Social Security Retirement, Social Security Survivors, Special Veterans,
and Supplemental Security Income benefits and ensures continuity of
service to beneficiaries.
U.S. Postal Service (USPS). The USPS provides extended mail services
to relocated populations.
Financial Assistance Services
Cora Brown Fund. Administered by FEMA, the Cora Brown Fund is
used for uninsured or under-insured disaster-related needs of individuals
or families who are unable to obtain adequate assistance from other local,
tribal, state, and federal programs or from VOLAGs.
Other Needs Assistance. Administered by FEMA, awards assist with medi-
cal, dental, funeral, personal property, transportation, moving and storage,
and other expenses for uninsured or underinsured eligible applicants.
HHS. HHS's broad suite of services provides financial assistance in the
form of expedited claims for new federal benefits. These services ensure
continuity of services to beneficiaries, such as Medicaid, Temporary
Assistance to Needy Families, Child Care. This program also supports
states hosting relocated populations by extending existing programs and
benefits or taking other actions as needed. HHS integrates ESF-6 needs
with those provided under ESF-8, Public Health and Medical Services.
Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA), Department of Labor.
Administered by the impacted state, DUA provides financial assistance
to individuals whose employment or self-employment has been lost or
interrupted as a direct result of a major disaster declared by the President,
and who are not covered by regular unemployment insurance.
Specialized Services
Crisis Counseling and Training. Administered by FEMA and the
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Crisis
Counseling Assistance and Training Program provides immediate, short-
term crisis counseling services to relieve grieving, stress, or mental health
problems caused or aggravated by a disaster or its aftermath. Assistance
provided is short term and is at no cost to the disaster victim.
Disaster Case Management. Administered by FEMA and HHS, this
program provides case management services, including financial assis-
tance, through government agencies or qualified nonprofits to eligible
individuals. Case management ensures that a sequence of delivery is fol-
lowed to streamline assistance, prevent duplication of benefits, and pro-
vide an efficient referral system.
Disaster Legal Services, American Bar Association (ABA)/Young
Lawyers Program. The ABA Disaster Legal Services provides free disas-
ter legal services for low-income individuals who are unable to secure
legal services to meet disaster-related needs.
