The Petacciato landslide is located on the Italian Adriatic coast with 7 km along the sea
and 2 km inland (Figure 8.5). The difference in altitude between the highest point and
the sea level is about 200 meters. This site experienced a series of small movements
during the 20th Century until a major event occurred on March 14, 1996 after a period
