formation. Respective chapters thus consider
theories of resource use and availability, political
ecology, science, globalization and urbanization.
While these theories are particularly helpful for
understanding the forms of environmental change
that are discussed in the chapters in which they
are introduced, they are ideas that can help us
to interpret the Anthropocene more generally.
The third part of these chapters focuses on
particular geographical case studies of the themes
in question. The geographical focus of these

HERE?
This volume is split into two main parts:
Environmental transformations and Living in the
Anthropocene . In the first part we explore the
types of environmental change associated with
the Anthropocene. The chapters in this part
consider in turn questions of resources, soil, air,
forests and cities. Each of these chapters follows a
standard structure. The first part sets out the
nature and extent of the environmental changes
associated with these sectors. The second part
sets out the key ideas and theories that can help
