9. The ears are quite sensitive in more ways than one. Cup your hand(s) and swing hard to strike
either one or both ears. This “boxing” of the ears will be excruciatingly painful, most likely burst-
ing your attacker's eardrum ( fig. 10-13 ).

10. Neck/carotid artery. This is not just a trick in the movies. A swift firm blow to the side of the
neck with an elbow swing, karate chop, or a hammer fist will spasm the carotid complex supply-
ing blood and oxygen to the brain and will severely compromise your opponent ( fig. 10-14 ) .
