5. Instep/shin. An attack to the instep or shin of your assailant could break the leg or ankle. Regard-
less, it will be intensely painful, and quite effectively incapacitate your assailant. If your arms are
pinned tightly by your assailant, and you are in a standing position, his instep may be the most
accessible and vulnerable body part to counterattack that gets him to release his grip. Raise your
well bent knee, effectively cocking your leg, before extending it explosively while allowing the
side of your foot to scrape down your opponent's shin to ensure that the heel of your foot lands
on target with a crippling blow to the top of his foot ( fig. 10-9 ).
