Starting a Fire with Bow and Drill
A fire can be started by rapidly spinning a wooden “drill”—under pressure—against a notch in
a board (see fig. 7-4 ), until enough heat is generated to create a small coal, which is dropped in-
to tinder and fanned into fire. This is not easy, but it's about a hundred times easier than starting
a fire with a hand-spun stick.
