We computed the coastal inundation from storm surges in both these
marginal seas under the following three different scenarios: (a) no climate
change, (b) intensification of tropical cyclone by 7% which is an average value
in the projected climate change range and (c) the intensification by 11% which
is the extreme case. For the numerical experiments the maximum value of the
pressure drop was determined separately for various regions based on the
historical observational records on the intensity of the cyclone as documented
by the India Meteorological Department. These detailed computations are
