gets smaller as the number of predictive variables that exist within the interpolation
models also gets smaller.
2.4.1.2. Duration of sunshine
Duration of sunshine, which is measured in hours, is recorded in only 115
evenly distributed climatological stations in France (Figure 2.8). This corpus of
climatological stations only samples a small fraction of the sites that exist in France.
Figure 2.9 shows that:
- the frequencies of the two groups are similar in relation to the classes of
intermediary values (150-500 m),
- there is an over-representation of climatological stations that record duration of
sunshine at the lower altitude levels,
- in comparison to the lower altitude levels, there is an under-representation of
such climatological stations at the higher altitudes, for example, no weather station
measuring duration of sunshine was found at an altitude above 1,020 m (Brenoux,
Lozère).

duration of sunshine is recorded; August values (1970-2000 average).
