exploited through dug wells, dug-cum-bore-wells and bore wells for irriga-
tion, as well as domestic purposes and (c) Sadras watershed is also located
about 60 km southwest of Chennai and 10 km SS-W of Mahabalipuram close
to the Sadras. This watershed is spread in around 12 sq. km and located in
between Buckingham Canal and the coastal site of the Bay of Bengal. These
areas consist of hard crystalline rock mainly charnokite of Archaean age.
Groundwater level in the area fluctuates a few meters to about 20.5 m below
ground level. Groundwater velocities as determined by single well as well
as multi-well tracer measurements were in order of
4cm/day. 12 , 13
3. Instrumental Techniques and Procedure
Electrical conductivity logging of water with depth interval in 17 bore
wells have been carried out by using EC logger namely Wissenscnscn-
naftlich Technische-Werkstatten (WTW) of German make. This instrument
builds up of very sophisticated EC meter and logger with sensor with the
facilities of continuous EC measurements with depths upto 200 m along with
