the same ArcGIS Online routing service that you used for the New York City
tour bus activity to design the best route for this truck delivery service.
To solve this problem, start ArcGIS for Desktop and access the ArcMap appli-
cation. Add from ArcGIS Online, the World Street Map. Zoom and pan the
map so you are looking at the continental USA. Under Extensions, make sure
the Network Analyst extension is turned on.
Since you are now working with national-scale data, you will need to make
sure your routing service is optimized for the many more choices on routes
that your trucking company can choose. To do so, you will make a server
connection to the service that allows this optimization. Access the Windows
drop-down menu and access “Catalog.” In Catalog, expand “GIS Servers,” Add
ArcGIS Server, and then click Next. For your server URL, enter http://tasks.
arcgisonline.com/arcgis/services , and then click Finish. On the Tools toolbar,
select “Find Route.” Click the Options tab, then click the Routing Service
browse button. Click Server Data, then expand the tasks.arcgisonline.com
server connection. Expand Network Analysis, and select ESRI_Route_NA, and
click Open. Click the Routing Service dropdown, then select “Long_Route.”
