3.2.2. Thumper
Intendedasbothahighfrequencysource(Figure5.18)withusefulforceupto500Hzand
asanurbansourcebuiltontopofastandardFord650chassis.Totalweight:is22,000lbs
(9,990kg) with vibration orientations possible in the vertical and horizontal directions.
Peakforceofabout6000lbsbecomesstrokeandflowlimitedat17Hzandfallsoffabove
approximately 225Hzdue to valve limitations.
3.2.3. T-Rex (tri-axial vibrosies)
One of only a few large vibrosies (Figure 5.19) which provide axis transformation
betweenvertical,inline,andcross-lineatthepushofabutton(Buggy-mountedvibrator).
Possiblevibrationorientationsinthevertical,transverse,orlongitudinaldirections.Cone
penetrometer functionality has been added to rear of vehicle. Peak force: of 60,000lbs
(267kN) in the vertical direction, and 30,000lbs (134kN) in the horizontal direction.
Peak forcefrequency range is 12Hz-180Hz (vertical) and 5Hz-180Hz (horizontal).
3.2.4. Liquidator (low frequency vibrosies)
Theonlylargevibrosies(Figure5.20)designedtoprovideusefulforcebelow1Hzwhich
enables low frequency liquefaction studies (Buggy-mounted vibrator). Vibration can be
impartedintheverticalorthehorizontaldirections.Conepenetrometer functionalityhas
been added to rear of vehicle. Peak force: is 20,000lbs (89kN), with peak force at 1Hz:
of 10,000lbs(45kN).
