NEESattheUniversityTexasisanequipmentsitethatspecializesindynamicfieldtesting
usinglarge-scaleshakers.Theequipmentincludesthreemobileshakersthathavediverse
force and frequency capabilities, an instrumentation van that houses state-of-the-art data
acquisition systems, and a large collection of field instrumentation. The field equipment
can be used in a variety of applications, including shear-wave velocity characterization,
liquefactiontesting,geophysicaltesting,anddynamictestingofstructures.Duringexper-
iments,theinstrumentationvancanconnecttotheNEESgridviaasatellitemodemallow-
ingoffsiteaccesstobothlivevideoanddata(materialbelowisextractedfromthewebsite
http://nees.utexas.edu).
3.2.1. Cruiser (instrumentation van)
Thisinstrumentedvan(Figure5.17)wasdevelopedinhouseasamobilecommandcentre,
designedtobeabletogettoandoperateinremotelocationsforextendedperiodsoftime.
It provides power, communication, video uplink, and data streaming capabilities at the
experiment site.
