8. 1824, October 26.
Earthquake in Manila and surrounding provinces. Shoals of dead fish floated
down the fish. The earthquake was accompanied by a hurricane.
9. 1852, September 16, 18 h 30 min.
A destructive earthquake in the central part of Luzon Island.
The earthquake lasted about 3 min in Manila. The sea rised significantly, and
the weak wind varied direction, the water was phosphorescent.
10. 1863, June 3, 19 h 20 min.
Catastrophic earthquake in Manila and neighbouring provinces.
At 19 h 30 min a wave from the south-east approached the vessels in the Manila
Bay. It hit the vessels and rolled over the decks, completely flooding them. The
frigates shook and trembled as if they were being battered against the sea bottom.
The water in the vicinity bubbled and was covered with foam. It was also said that
the steamboat 'Esperanza' vanished together with the entire crew.
Sources note that after the earthquake the coast was continuously visited by
storms, which nearly paralyzed the navigation.
11. 1880, July 18, 12 h 40 min.
A destructive earthquake with its source near the Pacific coast of the central part
of Luzon Island.
The water in rivers became dirty and assumed a state of continuous, agitation,
that lasted, at least, for 24 h.
12. 1901, September (or October) 10, 8 h 30 min.
A strong earthquake in the eastern part of Tayabas province, accompanied by an
underground boom.
Yawning fissures formed along the coast, and the water became very turbid;
dead fish was also found. The water becoming turbid could be due to a tsunami;
no straightforward data exist concerning the generation of waves.
13. 1924, April 15, 00 h 20 min. 6 . 5 N, 126 . 5 E.
A destructive earthquake with its source south-east of Mindanao Island.
A
strong
seaquake
was
experienced
on
board
a
steamboat
anchored
in
Karaga Bay. All of a sudden the sea became very rough.

14. 416.
The Javanese 'Book of kings' ('Rustaka Rajah') representing a chronicle of
the island, contains the following description of an eruption of the mountain Kapi.
In the year 416, from the depths of Pulosari mountain there arrived a thunderous
boom, which was answered by an identical boom coming from the inside of Kapi
mountain. An enormous blinding fire, reaching the skies, shot up from Kapi moun-
tain. The entire Universe shuddered. Peals of thunder was heard, a storm broke out,
it started to rain.
15. 1722, October, no date, 8 h.
Jakarta (Batavia), a strong earthquake. Water in the roadstead was being thrown
up, 'like in red-hot salt-works'.
16. 1757, August 24, around 2 h.
A strong wave-like shaking lasting 5 min occurred in Jakarta (Batavia). At 2 h
05 min, during the strongest shock, a wind from the North-East started blowing.
