Monday 17 December
A violent storm coming from the South West centered directly over the Flannan Isles
withwindsandwavesjustbelowhurricaneforce.Wavesof75ftwouldhavebeenlikely
due to the long build-up area (fetch) approaching the Flannans.
Tuesday 18 December
Previous day's violent storm passed to leave a fine day, light breeze.
Wednesday 19 December
The day started fine with a light to moderate southerly wind later moving to westerly.
Light rainfall later in the day which turned heavy.
Thursday 20 December (date of severe gales over Britain with Scot-
land hit hardest)
Weather generally described overall as disturbed and rough in summing up. Some ac-
counts have stated storm conditions, but met office records state severe gales from
south-westerly turning to north-westerly. Light rainfall.
Friday 21 December
Disturbed sea state, squally rain, westerly gales moderating later.
Saturday 22 December
Generally fine day, although there was light rainfall in later morning and afternoon.
Moderate to light winds.
