Environmental Characteristics
9.5.1.1.1.1 Geography
The Koycegiz-Dalyan Lagoon, with an approximate watershed of 1200 km 2 , is located
in southwestern Turkey. It consists of two main drainage systems, Koycegiz Lake
(1070 km 2 ), and the Dalyan Channels and Lagoon Lakes (130 km 2 ). The location and
three-dimensional (3D) view of the watershed are shown in Figure 9.5.1.
The boundaries of the lagoon watershed are the high mountains (>2000 m),
parallel to the coast, to the north; the Mediterranean coast to the south; and hills
and ridges (500-1000 m), straight to the coast to the east and west. There are deltas
