main contaminants. Sulfate concentrations that ranged from 25 to 40 mg/L, and
methane presence concurrent with depletion of dissolved oxygen, indicate anaerobic
degradation. Dissolved oxygen is low in the source zone and increases to the edge of
the plume, showing aerobic degradation. Under no attenuation and based only on
hydrological parameters, the calculated maximum plume distance from the spill
after 30 years could reach about 11,000 m. However, the plume in the present form
has extended only about 170 m from its source. Naidu et al. ( 2012 ) attribute this
difference
to
biodegradation,
which
was
confirmed
by
the
presence
