(Grinsted, Denmark), where pharmaceutical industry wastes were disposed during
1962-1975, is reported by Holm et al. ( 1995 ). The identified pharmaceutical
compounds accounted for about 5 % of the nonvolatile organic carbon measured
in the groundwater within the first 50 m downgradient of the site. The vertical
distribution of the compounds shows a significant variation. At two sampling
points (1.5 m depth) at the landfill border, concentrations of 2-methyl-2-n-propyl-
1,3-propanediol varied from 60 to 18,000 lg/L. The concentration of PhACs
decreases with increasing distance from the landfill site (Table 17.6 ). At a distance
of
150 m
downgradient
of
the
landfill,
no
PhACs
were
detected
in
