The redistribution under leaching of nickel was then tested in column experi-
ments, using a sandy loam topsoil of the Sonning Series (Reading, Berkshire, UK).
Leachate samples were collected during leaching with 10 pore volumes. The pH
values of the control and sludge-amended columns ranged between 7 and 8 and
remained consistent through leaching. Column effluent concentrations of dissolved
organic carbon (DOC) and Ni through the control and sludge-amended soil col-
umns are presented in Fig.
12.8
