through feudalism period (Idu, 1999 ).
During 1990-2000 a surface of 36 km 2 forest (2.35%) was cut in Maramures
Mountains and only 17 km 2 (1.11%) were naturally regenerated (Muresan Al,
2008 ). Another phenomenon related to forest cut is the uncontrolled wood exploita-
tion (Fig. 21.7 ) and inappropriate storage of leftovers (over 90 small mills produce
